GIVE ME THE NIGHT
September 21, 2022
I went slumming last night… experimenting… shooting long exposure with a vintage lens.
Mixing the Mamiya 80 2.8, a medium format lens made in Japan several decades ago, with the stellar Fuji GFX 100s, I shot long exposure frames. First, let me share two crops and then share the full image.
What is this? You got thoughts?
Okay, here’s the second crop…
Now, here’s the full image.
When one thinks of alleys, one usually thinks New York, Chicago… Here’s a semi-slummy, rather mediocre alley in Houston.
Down the alley, I was able to shoot through a building under construction. This was an 8-second exposure likely shot at F11 or so on the old Mamiya workhorse lens.
Below: Notice details in the foreground etched into the walls. And far away you can see each brick of the Cane’s chicken joint.
The Mamiya appears reasonably good for documentary photography and I’ve now used it to shoot several portraits, both on location and in studio. Below is just one example. So far so good…
Hey, join me for a shoot! I shoot on-location (anywhere… I routinely shoot at people’s homes or businesses), or at my studio or at locations such as those seen here.
Thanks for your time. You can find out more about me on this website. I’m Scott Edwards, a hybrid photographer (digital, modern and vintage lens, and a little bit of film) who shoots portraits, lifestyle, commercial and fine art photography. I gladly, thankfully shoot for individuals, families, businesses and organizations. My fine art work is at scottedwardsfineartphotography.com
