Meet the Minolta 58 1.4

April 26, 2018

Here’s one week and one lens.  Purely personal work here. The location is not exotic but I’d argue the images are.  People are not included (and I love to photograph people) but it’s a lovely little tribute to my late 1960s Minolta Rokkor MC 58 1.4 and to how much the weather and world shifts in a Chicago Spring… It had actually snowed three times in a 10 or so day range… so Monday begins with snow and a lovely red bouquet of flowers, followed by rain (and my red car), trailed by the sun and a robin’s red breast.  Click on an image for a closer look.  Take your time… breathe! Come walk with me through Winnetka…

You can read more about the Minolta 58 1.4, its technical merits and variations by searching the web.  I kept this post just to images.  It’s overlooked because its big brother, the Minolta 58 1.2 is one of the planet’s true bokeh kings. That just makes this excellent lens all the more afffordable – and it’s adaptable even to medium format cameras such as the Fujifilm GXF50s.  These images were taken with a Sony A7R2.
