MY APPROACH.  IT MIGHT BE A LITTLE STRESSFUL or even feel a bit weird to hire a photographer.  I understand! Rest easy, I’m intent on delivering a really good experience and some great images.  I get lots of satisfaction from taking good care of friends and strangers alike…  young and old, businesses and neighbors and complete strangers… I do love it…  and I hear two or three things most frequently, 1) you do beautiful work, 2) you’re an artist and 3) you made me feel at ease.

I want to emphasize the “ease” part of this equation.  I want to capture images of you… you, your loved ones, your work associates, your brand, etc.  To do that, I need you to be comfortable, relaxed and, in effect, hanging out with someone who just happens to be photographing you.  In my experience, it is then that people shine, add to the shoot, suggest things and try things by simply being themselves.  If you’re a business client, I adopt the same approach but do much more planning and inquiry, emphasizing your brand’s development.  Now, so I don’t scare children or small pets, here’s an obligatory few self portraits.

Scott Edwards by Scott Edwards

ABOUT ME. Working in digital, vintage and film photography, SCOTT EDWARDS is a versatile portrait and fine art photographer who focuses primarily on portraiture in the Gulf Coast and Great Lakes regions of the United States. Located in and having returned to Houston after 12 or so glorious years on Chicago’s Northshore, Scott also shoots commercial photography for businesses, organizations and media.  Now approaching five years as a professional photographer, Scott led public relations and marketing communications teams at communications agencies and environmental companies for the previous 25 years. He walked away from a professional “life at the top” (and another corp relocation) to pursue his artistic dreams.

MORE ABOUT SCOTT.  I’m a passionate creative with lots of discipline and drive – and pardon me if I write a bit here.  I am also, among other things, a writer… After more than 25 years in agency and corporate communications, including hiring and working with lots of photographers, videographers, designers, artists, communications consultants, and, oh yes, business people, entrepreneurs, executives, scientists, operations experts, academics, public officials, environmentalists and many others, I walked away from my corporate perch to become a photographer.

I got some “are you crazy?” looks of doubt.  But I had been losing myself in the world of photography long ago and longed to take that leap.

My mission today: Create photos and stories that celebrate people, causes, moments, nature and life at large.  When people look at my stuff or read my words, I want them to long for life, beauty and, yes even God. I want them to know that it’s never too late to act.  Never too late to enjoy life or reach out, take action, pick up the phone (oh, sure, text too!), smile, forgive, bend, learn, live, love, change and… you fill in the blanks.

ABOUT SCOTT’S STUDIO. I have a spacious two-room home studio in a safe, secure community.  I offer a variety of backdrops and backgrounds, along with various lighting and natural light.  You’ll have a private changing room and bathroom.  Usually both my wife and I are home working when I’m not shooting on location.  I’m casual in attitude and welcome any and all.

A BIT MORE ABOUT SCOTT.  While I’m not a Renaissance man, I do believe that some people can do many things well. (I write, paint, create, think and shoot photography.)  DaVinci was an engineer, sculptor, painter, illustrator, designer, inventor, architect, technologist and that’s the short list. Steve Martin is a comedian, actor, musician, writer and producer. Bill Gates is an inventor, computer geek, business magnate, philanthropist and investor. Oprah… Madonna… Bono… they’re all entertainers but each are also talented in many ways.

I was born on the bayou in the wonderful town of Lake Charles, Louisiana.  I’m a city/country loving guy who has seen all but four states (Alaska, Montana, North Dakota and Maine), much of Canada, pieces of Mexico, some of Europe, and there are miles to go before I sleep!

  • I love motorcycles, art and music. (See one of my Spotify lists – alternatively, let’s go for a ride!)
  • I love printed photographs!
  • I love to shoot and write! (See my blog.)
  • I love Sony, Nikon, Canon, Leica, Zeiss, Minolta, Fujifilm, Kodak and many other photographic forces and tools.
  • I hope to finish a novel one day.
  • I have begun to shoot film again – with a Nikon F100 and my very first Minolta X-570. I’m as excited about this experience as I was buying my first professional high-resolution camera.

I’m a member of Professional Photographers of America.  Call me or write.  I’m happy to visit or brainstorm. Whether it’s delivering a dynamic portrait or generating an idea that moves your family, brand or organization forward, I’d love to talk.

TESTIMONIALS: you can find reviews on Google or via these unsolicited FB comments from the past 3 years…
